The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has handed over about 100 water pumping machines he received from the Ministry of Agriculture to all the 18 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and selected cooperative farmer groups in the region at the event held at Sogakorpe on Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025.
This intervention, under the Feed Ghana Project and the Volta Lake Economic Corridor Project, is said to be a significant step toward expanding irrigation farming in the Region.
The Minister remarked, the importance of these machines was highlighted and a mechanism was outlined to ensure their effective operation, maintenance, and management, so they remain reliable tools for our farmers.
He also reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to improving road infrastructure in the Volta Region to guarantee smooth transportation of food produce to markets, thereby boosting trade and livelihoods. In addition, โI drew attention to ongoing government initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship Programme and the National Youth Employment Initiative, both of which complement our efforts to empower young people and strengthen local economiesโ.
Distribution of the water pumping machines is as follows:
โ 5 each to all Districts along the Volta Lake (South, Central, and North Tongu; Kpando, North Dayi, South Dayi, and Afadjato South).
โ 4 each to the other 11 Districts.
โ 6 to the Regional Agriculture Directorate.
โ The remaining 15 will be given to youth groups engaged in farming across the region, including the group cultivating about 1,500 acres of government land near Ho Airport.
Mr. Gunu used the occasion to commend our farmers and partners for their tireless contributions to food security and for driving the transformation of agriculture in the Volta Region.
