Ghana has officially launched its National Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative, during a high-level event at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum in New York, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The launch, led by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama and the World Bank, reinforces Ghana’s commitment to accelerating access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy for all Ghanaians.
Under the Compact, Ghana has committed to achieving four key objectives:
🔹 Increase the share of renewable energy in the national mix from 4% to 10% by 2026 and 30% by 2030;
🔹 Mobilize investments to support energy access and infrastructure;
🔹 Promote clean cooking solutions to reduce reliance on traditional fuels;
🔹 Advance the productive use of energy to stimulate jobs and economic development.
“Ghana believes universal energy access is essential for empowering businesses, reducing poverty, and creating equal opportunities,” President Mahama stated at the launch.
Mission 300 is a continent-wide initiative led by the World Bank Group, African Development Bank Group, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Rockefeller Foundation, with the goal of connecting 300 million people in Africa to electricity by 2030.
