Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector is undergoing comprehensive and forward-looking reforms aimed at making it more efficient, transparent and future-ready, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has said.
Speaking at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on Wednesday, October 15, Mr Jinapor said the reforms were based on recommendations from a special Downstream Review Committee he established shortly after assuming office.
“The work of the Committee has resulted in a comprehensive reform programme for the downstream sector that is already being implemented,” he disclosed.
He explained that the reforms are designed to strengthen systems, policies, and institutions to ensure that Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry remains proactive and globally competitive.
“These recommendations have laid the foundation for holistic reforms that will ensure our policies, systems, and institutions are proactive, dynamic, and forward-looking,” he added.
The Minister said the initiative reflects government’s vision to build a resilient energy sector capable of driving sustainable national growth.
“Our goal is to modernise and strengthen every facet of our energy architecture, including the downstream sector,” he stated.
Mr Jinapor reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s regulatory institutions remain fit for purpose.
“Together, let us build a downstream sector that is not only resilient but future-ready,” he said.
