The Assembly Member (AM) for the Mafi Adidome Central Electoral Area in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region is appealing to the District Assembly (DA) and other relevant bodies and citizens in the area to urgently help fix the deplorable state of the abattoir located in the Mafi Adidome market. According to Mr. Guggisberg Cujoe Fiagbenu, the state of the abattoir is not only an eye saw but also deeply worrying.

The Central Tongu district plays a key role in the livestock sector of the Volta Region. The district is one of the largest cattle suppliers in the region. According to the 2010 census, a total of 106,319 cattle were reportedly reared in the district. As at 2005 in the next door neighbour of North Tongu, the district had a cattle population of 34,564.

The Mafi Adidome abattoir where cattle and other animals are processed for sale to the general public including the citizens of Mafi Adidome and beyond, is nothing to write home about.

The abattoir which is located in the heart of the Adidome market is in a very deplorable condition. The building has cracked portions and perforated ceilings with most of its door and window frames falling off. The wire mesh at some of the windows are also rusted and corroded. Some of the cracks on the walls and building are so deep that iron rods used for the major pillars of the facility are exposed, posing danger to the users of the abattoir.

The Assembly Member for the Adidome Central Electoral Area, Hon. Guggisberg Cujoe Fiagbenu told our newsteam in an interview at Adidome that the situation is worrying. He therefore appealed to the Assembly and all well-meaning individuals of the district to urgently help fix the problem.

Mr. Fiagbenu also expressed concern about the poor nature of the Adidome Township roads which have been bedeviled with numerous potholes alongside major deterioration of portions of the road. He called for an urgent action by the Roads Ministry to deal with the situation, lamenting that the bad nature of the road has become responsible to some road accidents recorded in the area in recent times.

According to the Assembly Member, the dodging of potholes by drivers recently led to the head-on collision of two vehicles, an Opel Astra and a Toyota Hilux vehicle. Hon. Fiagbenu also stressed the need for the replacement of the road signs
