The Nominee, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is expected to face the
Appointment Committee of Parliament on Monday, November 11, 2025 for vetting at 11:00 am, Committee Room 1 & 2.

On Tuesday, October 21
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin referred the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice of Ghana to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report.

He made the referral after reading a correspondence from President John Dramani Mahama, dated October 14, 2025, which conveyed the nomination in line with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

“Following consultations with the Council of State conveyed by this letter dated 14th October 2025, and in accordance with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution, I have the honour to respectfully submit for the approval of Parliament the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana,” the President’s letter stated.

The President praised the nominee for his integrity, judicial temperament, and commitment to the rule of law, adding that his leadership and administrative competence would advance reforms within the judiciary.

“Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has distinguished himself through unwavering integrity, sound judicial temperament, and a deep commitment to the rule of law. His long and meritorious service on the Supreme Court has been characterized by professionalism, fairness, and a passion for justice,” President Mahama wrote. “He possesses the necessary leadership, administrative competence, and a vision to strengthen public confidence in the judiciary.”

He urged Parliament to expedite the approval process in accordance with constitutional requirements to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership of the judiciary.
