The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has officially inaugurated a high-level technical working group tasked with overseeing Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The committee’s formation comes on the heels of Ghana’s Black Stars securing qualification to the global tournament.
The Technical Working Group aims to coordinate all aspects of Ghana’s participation, from logistical and operational arrangements to fostering socio-cultural and economic benefits for the nation.
The committee’s scope encompasses financial planning, team preparation, marketing, cultural promotion, trade, tourism, and diplomatic activities aligned with Ghana’s goals for the tournament.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Hon. Adams emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach to maximize the country’s benefits from participation in the World Cup. “This committee is tasked with ensuring Ghana not only performs well on the field but also leverages the tournament to boost our economy, promote tourism, and strengthen our international relations,” he stated.
The committee’s overarching objective is to facilitate the Black Stars’ preparation and improve their performance compared to previous editions. Additionally, it aims to promote Ghana’s image and attract investments by showcasing the country’s cultural and tourism potentials.
Members of the committee include representatives from various government Ministries such as Sports and Recreation, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Interior, Trade and Industry, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Youth Development and Empowerment, as well as the Ghana Football Association and a private sector representative. The group will be chaired by Hon. Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation.
The committee will develop a comprehensive “Roadmap to the World Cup,” guiding activities such as fundraising, team training, friendly matches, media campaigns, cultural events, and trade initiatives. It is expected to operate until three months after the tournament, with provisions for extension if necessary.
Supported by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the committee is set to work closely with relevant stakeholders to mobilize resources, raise awareness, and ensure Ghana’s successful participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A detailed report on the committee’s activities and outcomes will be submitted to Cabinet upon completion of its mandate.
This initiative marks a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to make a memorable impact on the global football stage while harnessing the tournament for broader national development.
