The Ministry of Health, in a press release dated 3rd December, 2025has confirmed that over 6,000 newly recruited nurses have received their salaries, covering the full cohort of 13,500 nurses recruited nationwide, with assurances that all outstanding administrative matters will be duly addressed.

The Ministry also commended the newly posted medical officers who have reported to their designated duty stations, and those who have not yet reported are kindly requested to do so by Friday, 12th December 2025. This extended deadline is intended to provide all remaining officers with adequate opportunity to report, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a fair and balanced distribution of the health workforce across the country.

The Ministry also used the opportunity to reiterate that the postings are not punitive, but rather an essential measure to achieve equitable deployment of health professionals, “families and relatives of the newly posted medical officers are encouraged to support them in accepting and settling into their assigned postings, especially in the underserved areas”.

“The Ministry wishes to re-emphasize its commitment to work with Stakeholders in providing incentives for officers posted to the rural and underserved areas, in line with the Ministry’s Human Resource Posting Guidelines.

The statement signed by Tony Goodman Head, Health Training Institution & Spokesperson, however, called on Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to support by providing key incentives, such as accommodation, transport support, and other basic amenities, to help attract and retain medical officers and other health professionals in their respective districts.

The Ministry further emphasizes that no changes will be made to the recent postings and that “the Ministry of Health remains committed to strengthening Ghana’s health workforce and ensuring equitable delivery of quality healthcare services across all regions”.
