Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening trade, agribusiness and local industrial production during a working visit to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang met with the Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, directors and heads of agencies, who briefed her on key programmes and priorities. She was updated on progress under the Accelerated Export Development Programme, increased participation of Ghanaian businesses in AfCFTA markets, and the international promotion of Made-in-Ghana products, including Ghana’s participation at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
The Vice President commended the Ghana Standards Authority for supporting exporters, noting that 179 companies have received export approvals. She also welcomed policy actions aimed at boosting local manufacturing, including proposed bans on non-ferrous scrap and raw rubber exports.
She was further briefed on draft policies in textiles and garments, pharmaceuticals, automotive components and special economic zones, as well as ongoing industrialisation efforts such as the planned operationalisation of the Komenda Sugar Factory.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang praised initiatives targeting women and youth in agribusiness and entrepreneurship and stressed the importance of strong collaboration among ministries to build an integrated economic ecosystem. She emphasised the need to expand local production to retain more national spending within the economy
