The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has been honoured for his leadership and reform agenda at the Ashanti Regional Communication Bureau’s End of Year Communication Retreat, held in Kumasi on January 10, 2026.
The retreat brought together senior figures of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), communication professionals, and public sector leaders to review the year’s work and recognise outstanding public service. In attendance were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Augustus Nana Kwame Andrews, among other party executives and stakeholders.
Dr. Bampoe, who was not present at the event, was represented by the Head of Communication at the NHIA, Faustina Dery, who received the honour on his behalf. Addressing the gathering, she conveyed the CEO’s appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, describing it as an endorsement of the ongoing reforms within the Authority.
Ms. Dery highlighted key achievements under Dr. Bampoe’s leadership, including the prompt payment of claims to healthcare providers and a renewed crackdown on illegal co-payment practices, which have long undermined public confidence in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
She noted that these measures have helped improve service delivery, strengthen accountability, and protect subscribers from unauthorised charges at health facilities.
“The focus of the current administration of the NHIA has been to restore trust in the Scheme through timely claims payment, strict enforcement against co-payment, and broader system reforms that put the patient first,” she said.
She further indicated that the NHIA would roll out additional reforms in 2026 and beyond, aimed at improving operational efficiency, leveraging technology, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Scheme.
Organisers of the retreat said the recognition of Dr. Bampoe reflects the growing impact of leadership at the NHIA and the importance of effective communication and governance in strengthening public institutions.
