The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP, has charged the newly inaugurated Grains Export Permits Committee to discharge its duties with the highest level of professionalism, integrity and collaboration.
The Minister made the call in a speech read on her behalf at the inauguration of the 11-member committee in Accra on Wednesday, 28 January 2026.
She assured the committee of the Ministry’s full support to enable it to effectively carry out its mandate, stressing that its deliberations must be guided by evidence, national policy objectives and a shared commitment to the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s grains sector.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare highlighted the strategic importance of the grains sector to Ghana’s economy, noting that it supports livelihoods in rural communities, contributes significantly to national food security, and enhances the country’s standing in regional and international trade.
“As demand for our grains continues to grow beyond our borders, it is imperative that exports are managed in a manner that is transparent, efficient and aligned with our national priorities,” she stated.
The Minister further tasked the committee to promote fairness, accountability and consistency in its decision-making processes, emphasizing that export permits must be issued based on clear criteria, sound data and due diligence, without unwarranted delays or ambiguity.
According to her, such an approach will help build confidence among producers, traders and international partners.
In his response, the Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, on behalf of the members, assured the Ministry of their commitment to work assiduously to help regularise and strengthen the grains sector.
