The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership in Effutu Constituency has denied allegations of voter intimidation during the party’s presidential primary held on January 31, 2026.
The claims were made by Theophilus Kojo Halm, a former Chairman of the Constituency, who campaigned for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in 2023 and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2026.
The party describes the allegations as “untrue, unfounded, unfair, and unnecessary”, noting that Halm has a history of making similar claims.
The NPP is urging party faithful and supporters of multi-party democracy to disregard Halm’s claims, which they say unfairly tarnish the reputation of the Effutu Constituency and the NPP.
“For the records, the allegations are untrue, unfounded, unfair, unfortunate and unnecessary. During the 2023 NPP presidential primary, Theophilus Kojo Halm was the chief campaigner for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the Effutu Constituency and he raised alarms of voter intimidation against his side which tumed out to be untrue. For the 2026 NPP presidential primary, Theophilus Kojo Halm openly campaigned for Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in the Effutu Constituency” and again, he is spreading allegations of voter intimidation against his side which is untrue.
The statement however, called on all party faithful and lovers of multi-party democracy to disregard the alarmist claims being made by Theophilus Kojo Halm.
