He beat Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP Naser Toure, who polled 399 votes. The other contestants, Mohammed Ramme, Dr. Yakubu Azindow, and Mohammed Najib, received 88, 45, and 1 vote(s) respectively.
The primary, held on February 7, 2026, was not without controversy, with allegations of vote-buying and inducement, including reports of delegates receiving television sets and other gifts. The NDC has launched an investigation into these claims.
