Ghana is set to commemorate a pivotal moment in its history as it marks the 78th anniversary of the Crossroads Shooting Incident on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The solemn ceremony, taking place at Nationalism Park near the Accra Sports Stadium in Osu-Accra, will pay tribute to the nation’s heroes who fought for freedom and justice.
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is expected to lead the commemoration as the Special Guest of Honour.
The event serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen who marched peacefully to demand their benefits after serving in World War II, only to be met with violence. On that fateful day in 1948, Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey lost their lives, sparking a wave of protests that fueled Ghana’s struggle for independence.
The incident became a turning point in Ghana’s history, marking a crucial moment in the country’s fight for self-governance.
This year’s commemoration is part of Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary celebrations, themed “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”
