The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has extended support to a middle- aged physically challenged trader in a wheelchair with cash and a purchase of all his goods as part of the Assembly’s push for inclusive development.
Mayor Allotey supported the Person With Disability (PWD) on Friday, October 3, during a public sensitisation tour on sanitation in the Central Business District (CBD).
Speaking after the gesture, the Mayor said the trader’s determination to earn an honest living despite physical limitations exemplified the resilience Accra needs under the “Resetting Accra” agenda.
He said the support was intended to promote decent livelihoods for PWDs and to demonstrate the Assembly’s commitment to removing social and economic barriers against vulnerable residents.
He pointed out that inclusive growth was a pillar of the city’s programme covering access to dignified work, safer public spaces, and cleaner communities stressing that improved sanitation directly benefits street hawkers, traders, market users and commuters, including PWDs.
