National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has banned the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial transport, citing safety concerns.
The Technical Working Committee found that the vehicles, often converted from right-hand drive to left-hand drive, pose an unacceptable risk to road safety due to their design and widespread modification.
The committee noted that the Toyota Voxy is designed for private family use, not commercial passenger transport, and is not built for high mileage or rough terrain. Many of these vehicles have undergone structural modifications, including changes to suspension systems and tyres, often by unlicensed operators, compromising their safety.
As such, the NRSA has recommended stricter enforcement of existing laws, including a ban on right-hand drive imports, tighter controls on vehicle conversions, and public education to curb misuse. Transport operators have expressed concerns, arguing the ban is poorly thought out and will harm livelihoods.
