The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Lawyer Simon Madjie, has called on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to consider dedicated protocols aimed at encouraging Diaspora investment.
His comments came during a high-level event marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the AfCFTA Secretariat and the U.S. National Bar Association in April, this year.
The agreement seeks to strengthen legal frameworks for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and facilitate cross-border trade through initiatives such as the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) and protocols on Women and Youth in Trade.
Mr. Madjie welcomed the development as “a significant milestone” and urged policymakers to go further by integrating the African Diaspora into the continent’s broader economic strategy.
“We must be intentional about connecting African economies with global partners—especially the Diaspora, whose role in the continent’s development is critical,” he said.
The GIPC boss reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with AfCFTA and international stakeholders to build a more integrated, investment-friendly environment across the continent.
