The political landscape of Ghana is once again abuzz with discussions surrounding the return of Baba Jamal to Parliament. Baba Jamal, a seasoned politician and a prominent figure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has garnered widespread attention as he prepares to be sworn in, as a Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, joining the majority side of the House.
This follows his landslide victory over his counterpart in the bye election conducted on Tuesday, March, 2026.
Whereas Baba Jamal scored about 63% of the total valid vote cast, his closest competitor Baba Ali Yussif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), polled 4,000 votes, accounting for 23.45%. The three other candidates in the race collectively secured 2,254 votes (13.26%), while 122 ballots were rejected.
The bye election came about as a result of demise of the MP Mahama Naser Toure, in January 2026.
Until his election as MP, Baba Jamal was Ghana’s Hogh Commissioner to Nigeria.
