The Tema Oil Refinery is banking on AI, real-time data, and predictive maintenance to improve plant reliability as it pursues recovery and modernization.

TOR’s participation in the 2026 Endress+Hauser Global Forum in Basel, Switzerland was described by management as “timely” for the refinery’s ongoing operational overhaul.
Held under the theme _“Driving sustainable transformation together”_, the forum examined how AI, data-driven technologies, and modern measurement methods are reshaping industrial operations and maintenance.
Key takeaways for TOR
A major focus for the refinery is the role of real-time data and smart systems in improving plant reliability and supporting informed decision-making across operational units.
The forum also highlighted the industry shift toward predictive maintenance.
By using enhanced measurement and analytics, plants can detect equipment issues early, cut unplanned downtime, and raise overall efficiency.

Management said the insights are directly relevant to TOR’s goal of optimizing existing assets and improving operational efficiency. The refinery has been on a recovery and repositioning journey after years of underperformance, with modernization of core units a stated priority.
Adopting predictive maintenance and data-led monitoring would mark a significant operational shift for TOR, which has historically battled unplanned shutdowns and aging infrastructure.

The Basel forum brought together global process automation and instrumentation players to share practical applications of AI and advanced analytics in oil, gas, and chemical plants.
