Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is strengthening regional collaboration with Sonabhy following a management visit to the Managing Director of TOR, Edmond Kombat, as both institutions explore opportunities to deepen cooperation within the petroleum industry.
The Delegation also paid a Courtesy Call on the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor to thank him, H.E President Mahama and the government of Ghana for the support for petroleum products movement, trading and supply for Burkina Faso.
During the meeting, TOR’s Managing Director, Mr. Kombat, underscored the importance of the strong relationship the two companies have built over the years, highlighting its critical role in facilitating petroleum trade through Ghana to the market served by Sonabhy.
He noted that this growing partnership has contributed to a significant increase in the proportion of Sonabhy’s national petroleum consumption supplied through Ghana, from approximately 15 percent to 40 percent since President John Dramani Mahama returned to office in 2024.

He emphasized that the development demonstrates the value of sustained institutional collaboration in expanding regional trade and strengthening Ghana’s position as a strategic petroleum supply hub in West Africa.
He noted that the development highlights Ghana’s growing importance as a strategic petroleum supply and trading hub in the sub-region, creating opportunities to deepen cross-border trade, strengthen commercial partnerships, and advance regional cooperation within the West African petroleum industry.
For TOR, the engagement presents an opportunity to explore how stronger institutional relationships and regional trade can support its business objectives, expand market opportunities, and reinforce Ghana’s position within the West African petroleum value chain.
Speaking during the meeting, Sonabhy’s Managing Director Dr. Patrice Forogo expressed his appreciation for the growing collaboration between the two institutions and his continuing commitment to strengthening petroleum trade through Ghana and his optimism about the future cooperation between the two companies to generate additional revenue from mutually agreed petroleum transaction and services.
He also took the opportunity to congratulate the Managing Director of TOR on his appointment and wished him well in fulfilling the mandate the President has entrusted him.
The discussions also reflect the broader importance of collaboration among petroleum industry players in improving product supply arrangements, strengthening commercial relationships, and supporting regional energy security.
As demand for reliable petroleum supplies continues to shape the regional energy landscape, closer cooperation between TOR and Sonabhy could provide a platform for identifying new opportunities for trade, knowledge-sharing, and long-term business development.
The visit concluded with a tour of the key areas of the refinery, including the utilities, Tank Farm, New Safety Block, Quality Control and the F-61 Furnace at the crude Distillation Unit (CDU).
The facility tour provided the delegation with an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into Tor’s operations, infrastructure and ongoing development activities.
