GCB Bank has pledged 5 million Ghana Cedis to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to help prepare the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The donation was officially presented during a ceremony at GCB’s headquarters in Accra, attended by representatives from both organizations.

Prof. Joshua Alabi, Chair of the GCB Bank Board, highlighted the bank’s commitment to developing Ghana’s sporting talent and promoting national pride. “We are proud to support the Black Stars. This donation reflects our belief in Ghanaian football and our dedication to our athletes,” he stated.

Football is a unifying force in Ghana. GCB’s contribution of 5 million Cedis demonstrates that their support goes beyond banking. “When our team plays in international tournaments like the World Cup, it’s also a way to promote our country. The Black Stars are not just a football team, they represent hope and resilience.

We believe this support will improve the welfare and logistics for the team,” he added.

Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, received the donation and expressed gratitude to GCB for their support. “Sport is a growing industry when properly supported, and GCB was among the first to respond when the sports fund was created,” he said.

He also praised GCB for providing training to the staff managing the sports fund.

“Thanks to the training provided, I am confident that the fund will thrive and serve its purpose effectively,” he stated.
The Minister further commended GCB for its presence not just in communities but also in strategic locations where many others have failed. “Your support will go a long way in backing the Black Stars.

This gesture shows how corporate Ghana can play a vital role in elevating national sports and instilling pride in our nation,” he concluded.
