The Graduates and Professionals of the Ga-Dangme Network (GPGD), led by its President, Emmanuel Obodai has met the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to discuss areas of collaboration in education, women empowerment, youth development and community transformation.
Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Obodai said the Network which was established in 2023 and registered in 2024 currently has more than 600 members comprising graduates, professionals, traditional leaders, Members of Parliament, queen mothers and distinguished individuals from the Ga-Dangme community.
He highlighted some interventions undertaken by the Network, particularly its partnership with Plan Ghana under the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP) to identify and reintegrate out-of-school children into the classroom.
According to him, although the initial target was 1,000 children, the Network validated over 2,500 children between the ages of 8 and 16 who are currently undergoing special learning programmes before being reintegrated into formal education.
Mr. Obodai noted that the exercise uncovered worrying situations in some communities where many children were out of school, stressing the need for stronger collaboration to improve the welfare and future of vulnerable children.
He further expressed the Network’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry to support initiatives aimed at promoting child protection, social development and women empowerment.
Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the Network for its efforts in supporting education and community development and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with organisations whose objectives align with the Ministry’s mandate of promoting the welfare of women, children and vulnerable persons.
