Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has facilitated the distribution of about 4,000 coconut seedlings to selected farmers across the constituency as part of efforts to support and empower tree crop farmers.
The seedlings were provided by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority following a request from the MP. Mr Agbana expressed gratitude to Francis Arthur Joojo Kelly and his team for their support.
Beneficiaries received a brief orientation on proper cultivation and maintenance of coconut farms to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.
The GEPA Regional Manager and her team supervised the distribution and registration of beneficiaries throughout the day.
Encouraged by strong interest from young people in tree crop farming, Mr Agbana said: “This gives me great hope for the future of agriculture and agribusiness in Ketu North.”
He said the next phase will include the distribution of mango and oil palm seedlings, adding: “We will work to secure additional coconut seedlings for those who were unable to benefit from this first batch.”
The MP also expressed joy that some senior high schools in the constituency are benefiting from the programme.
“In a few years, these plantations could become valuable sources of revenue for the schools while also serving as practical learning opportunities for students,” he said.
“Agriculture remains one of the surest pathways to economic transformation, job creation, and sustainable development. We will continue to pursue initiatives that create opportunities, improve livelihoods, and build a more prosperous Ketu North,” Mr Agbana added.
