The National Labour Commission has ordered the Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association to call off its indefinite strike and appear before it on Wednesday, 10th June 2026 for a hearing.

In a summons dated 6th June 2026 and signed by Acting Executive Secretary Dr. Bernice A. Welbeck, the NLC said it had read in the media a declaration of indefinite strike by KADA effective 6th June 2026.

According to the Commission, KADA communicated the strike notice via a correspondence dated 5th June, 2026 addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, with copies to the Chief of Staff and Minister of Health.

The doctors cited displeasure with “some operational and administrative decisions/actions” for the industrial action.

The NLC said KADA’s notice was improperly served because it was not compliant with relevant provisions of the Labour Law.

“Consequently, the Commission in exercise of its powers under section 139(d) of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) directs KADA to call off the strike immediately as the action contravenes sections 162 and 163 of Act 651,” the letter stated.

The Commission has summoned both parties to appear before it on Wednesday, 10th June 2026 at 2pm for a hearing of the issues in dispute.

Copies of the summons were sent to the Minister of Health, Director-General of Ghana Health Service, President of Ghana Medical Association, Ashanti Divisional Chairman of GMA, Medical Director and Director of Administration of KATH.

The Chief of Staff and Secretary to the President were copied.

KADA is the doctors’ association at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ghana’s second-largest referral hospital in Kumasi. The NLC’s directive means emergency and clinical services at KATH should continue pending the hearing.
