The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council is warning residents to stop prank and false emergency calls, saying they are undermining flood response efforts and putting lives at risk.

In a press release dated 7th June 2026 and signed by Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, GARCC expressed deep concern over the growing incidence of fake distress reports to emergency agencies.

According to GARCC, NADMO, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, National Ambulance Service, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Office of the Regional Minister have all received numerous false distress reports and prank calls during the ongoing flooding in parts of Greater Accra.

“As emergency personnel work tirelessly to rescue stranded residents, provide relief to affected communities, and respond to urgent distress situations, the misuse of emergency communication channels places an unnecessary burden on responders and reduces the effectiveness of ongoing operations,” the release stated.
As Chairperson of the Regional Security Council, Hon. Ocloo appealed to residents to act responsibly and refrain from making false emergency reports.
“Every prank call occupies vital communication lines, delays response times, and may prevent emergency teams from reaching individuals and communities that urgently need assistance,” she said.

GARCC urged residents to use emergency contact lines only for legitimate emergencies and to cooperate fully with response agencies managing the flood situation.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with emergency and security agencies to safeguard lives and property and ensure a coordinated response to the current flooding.
