The Board of Trustees of the Ghana Education Trust Fund has completed its 2026 Project Monitoring Exercise in the southern zone with 129 beneficiary institutions spanning Volta, Eastern, Central, Western and Greater Accra visited. Led by Board Chairman Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, the exercise sent Trustees directly to school compounds, dormitories, lecture halls and district education offices not to review paperwork from a desk, but to see, in the Chairman’s words, “exactly what has been built, what remains unbuilt, and why.”
From the completed Vice Chancellor’s bungalow at Ho Technical University to the standout E-block facilities at Adaklu Gbekor SHS, the tour uncovered genuine wins worth celebrating. During the exercise, the team didn’t shy away from the hard truths either such as the abandoned and dilapidated project at Mawuko SHS, schools still waiting on absorption into the public system, and a recurring, tour-wide bottleneck that Trustees identified as the single biggest obstacle to timely delivery.
What sets this exercise apart is its follow-through. The Board didn’t just observe but issued direct, site-level directives by ordering an integrity assessment at Mawuko SHS, committing to fast-track absorption for unabsorbed schools, and pledging to engage financial authorities to unblock stalled disbursements. As Rev. Cyril Gershon Fayose put it during the tour, “a project delayed is a future deferred.”
GETFund remains committed to ensuring that every cedi invested in Ghana’s educational infrastructure translates into classrooms, dormitories and facilities that serve students, teachers and communities. The trustees were accompanied by staff from Projects and Corporate Affairs.
