Theresa Lardi Awuni, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, expressed her pride and optimism at the just concluded 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty, and Values held in Ghana.
In her interview with the media, MP Awuni highlighted the importance of unity among African nations. She lamented the reluctance of some countries to sign agreements aimed at fostering continental integration but emphasized that Africa’s collective sovereignty and shared purpose must come first. “We want one great African continent. Africans must stand for each other. We must unite,” she stated passionately.
Reflecting on the reception of international visitors, MP Awuni praised Ghana’s hospitality, noting that visitors had commended the warm and respectful treatment they received from Ghanaians, from drivers to locals outside the summit. “They will go back and say they experienced the true spirit of Ghanaian hospitality,” she added with pride.
When asked about the significance of the conference for African unity, she reaffirmed her belief in the continent’s potential to be stronger through unity. “No matter how you try to change yourself, as long as you are African, it is better for us to unite. We are stronger together than divided,” she urged fellow Africans.
Concluding her remarks, MP Awuni called on Africans to come together as one people and expressed hope that the conference would serve as a catalyst for greater continental solidarity. “This is my prayer—that Africa united as one,” she affirmed.
The conference has been seen as a step forward in fostering regional cooperation and strengthening the bonds that tie African nations together in pursuit of common goals.
