Government will continue and complete all ongoing road projects irrespective of the political regime that initiated them, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has assured.

The Minister made the commitment at the ongoing public hearing of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Development, which is reviewing the 2024 National Annual Progress Report.

Addressing the committee, Mr. Agbodza expressed disappointment over the failure of the previous NPP administration to continue key road projects initiated by the previous NDC government. He cited the Eastern Corridor Road as a prime example of a project that stalled despite its strategic importance.

“Roads are for the people, not for political parties. It is disappointing when projects like the Eastern Corridor Road, started by the NDC, are abandoned simply because there was a change in government,” he told MPs.

The Minister said the current administration is adopting a policy of continuity to avoid waste and ensure value for money. According to him, all viable road projects, regardless of which regime awarded the contracts, will be assessed and brought to completion.

Committee members at the hearing welcomed the assurance, noting that abandoned projects have cost the state millions of cedis and denied communities access to critical infrastructure.

The Eastern Corridor Road, which links the northern and southern parts of the Volta Region, has been a major source of concern for residents and transport operators for years due to its poor state.

Key points of his submissions are:
Policy shift-no more abandonment of projects due to change in government
Focus-Eastern Corridor Road and other stalled projects to be prioritized
Goal-Reduce waste, improve infrastructure delivery nationwide
