The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, will host commemorative events to celebrate the 79th birthday of the party’s founder, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, on Monday, June 22, 2026. Under the theme “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” the events aim to honor his significant contributions to Ghana’s political history.
in a statement issued in Accra by Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy National Communication Officer said, the day will commence with the official naming of the NDC party headquarters in honor of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, coupled with the unveiling of his bust at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will be graced by the party leader, President John Dramani Mahama, along with other prominent party members and supporters.
Later in the afternoon, at 4:00 p.m., a lecture and exhibition will be held at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences near the CSIR in Accra. The keynote speaker will be renowned Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata. The event will also feature speeches by notable figures including Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security.
Members of the public, party faithful, supporters, and cadres are warmly invited to participate in both events to celebrate Flt Lt Rawlings’ life, achievements, and enduring legacy.
