Established in 2017 with barely 40 students, the Asafo College of Health in the Western North Region (WNR) can now boost of over 1,400 students.
However, the strenuous effort of the principal Madam Susan Yaa Aframah Arkah to upgrade the school with academic excellence is not withstanding.
The school, is in dire live of assistance in diverse ways, ranging for financial through material to stuffing.
According to the principal, she has been about the fourth in succession as principal of the school.
In an exclusive interview with her last Wednesday June 18th, 2026, she indicated that her first three predecessors came and left in a quick succession due to the location of the school, lack of facilities, rural nature of the location and many more.
She pointed out when she came to assume office, the school was nothing to write home about.
However, through God’s grace hard work and determination the school has grown to an admirable and envious status.
As such, students from all over the country are seeking admission there.
“The school can currently boost of over 1,400 students”, the Principal Indicated.
ACCREDITATION
The principal indicated that when she assumes office, she had, to fight hard for accreditation which she now has.
These accreditations are from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Nursing & mid wifery Council (NNC).
PROGRAMMES
Accordingly, the school now runs 5 principal programms namely; Registered General Nursing (RGN), Registered Midwifery (RM), Health Informatics (HI), Community Nutrition & Dietetics and Nutrition Assistance.
The principal was quick to point out that the school is now bathing in high academic excellence that is attracting students from all over the country, stressing that students can now do a degree from the diploma status.
Also, past students can now come and sit for the degree students.
She indicated that over 1,000 students have passed out so far, and have all been posted by government.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Madam Susan Arkah stated that apart from the academic achievements of the school it has also been able to put up on Ultra-modern ICT Lab, Ultra-modern skills library complex, bought a Pick-Up car, built a conference room, a 6 unit classroom block and a well finished tutor’s office as well as an examination Bank.
The school has also been able to fence round the 28- acre land donated by the community to prevent encroachment.
The principal indicated that but for this effort people would have encroached to on the land.
According to her, all these have to be done with the Limited.
IGF. CHALLENGES AND QUEST FOR HELP
The principal pointed out that the achievement not withstanding the school faces numerous challenges which require immediate attention.
These include: lack of school bus, hostel, staff bungalows, and good roads especially those on campus.
She stated that because of the bad nature of roads on the campus it becomes muddy whenever it rains.
She indicated that the school had wanted to tar the campus with its limited IGF but the project came to a halt because of the rains.
ACCOMODATION
The principal stated that the 44-member staff lives in various individuals houses due to lack of staff bungalows.
Also the students live in high posters
NEGLECT
According to the principal, apart from the 28-acre land offered to the school by the community no financial help has been forthcoming from any quarters.
It is against this background that she is appealing to well meaning citizens from the area and beyond to come to the aid of the school in various ways .
This is because their only source of income is their IGF.
Madam Susan Arkah opined that since the school belongs to the people, they should endeavor to come to the school.
She expressed her willingness and preparedness to make the school achieve the needed Academic Status so as to make it not only attractive but also competitive not only in the Western North but also Ghana and Africa.
