Agotime Kente Festival 2026 Line-Up Released: 10 Days of Culture, Sports and Tradition
Organizers of the 2026 Agotime Kente Festival have released the official activity line-up for this year’s celebration, under the theme: “Agotime Kente: Honouring Our Inheritance, Safeguarding Our Future.”
The 10-day festival, slated for Friday, 7th August to Sunday, 16th August 2026, will showcase the rich heritage of the Agotime people through tradition, health, education, sports, and tourism activities across Agotime towns.
Full Programme of Activities:
Friday, 7th August – Muslim Prayers
The festival opens with solemn Muslim prayers of dedication at the Zongo Mosque, Kpetoe, invoking peace, unity, and spiritual blessings.
Saturday, 8th August – The Kente City Walk
A fitness and solidarity walk through principal towns of Agotime, uniting residents, visitors, and traditional leaders.
Sunday, 9th August – Christian Opening Service
Church services across Agotime towns to seek divine guidance and officially dedicate the festival.
Monday, 10th August – Traditional Dedication & Community Clean-Up*
Ancestral prayers at Afegame, followed by a coordinated clean-up drive in all Agotime towns and villages.
Tuesday, 11th August – Health Walk & JHS Quiz:
A morning health walk through Kpetoe, followed by a quiz competition for local Junior High Schools.
Wednesday, 12th August – Women & Children’s Mini-Durbar, Football Gala & Storytelling Night
Agbesia hosts a mini-durbar celebrating women and children, plus a football gala and an evening of ancestral oral traditions at Kpetoe.
Thursday, 13th August – Godigbe, Weaving Competition & Borborbor
Re-enactment of Agotime’s historic Landing Day migration at Afegame, a speed-weaving competition, and an evening of classic Ewe Borbor dance at Kpetoe.
Friday, 14th August – Heroes and Heroines Day, Asialetorme Rite & Miss Kente Pageant
Activities include musket firing at Akpokofe, the traditional water welcome rite Asialetorme, and the Miss Kente pageant at Kpetoe.
Saturday, 15th August – The Grand Durbar & Kente Carnival:
The climax of the festival: a spectacular Grand Durbar of Chiefs at GRA Park, Kpetoe, featuring chiefs in majestic Kente cloths, palanquin rides, the Totokpakpa Food Bazaar, and a street carnival.
Sunday, 16th August – Thanksgiving, Football Finals & Gospel Rock Show:
The festival closes with ecumenical thanksgiving, the football tournament finals, and an uplifting Gospel Rock Show at Kpetoe.
Festival Focus:
Organizers say this year’s programme is designed to promote Agotime culture, empower the youth, and project Kente weaving as both heritage and a driver of tourism and economic growth.
Residents, tourists, and the diaspora are expected to troop to Agotime for the celebration, with the Grand Durbar on August 15 anticipated to be the biggest highlight.
