The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to the newly appointed Defence Minister, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, bringing his tenure as caretaker of the Ministry to an end.
Dr Ato Forson was tasked by President John Dramani Mahama to take charge of the Ministry following the death of the substantive Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash. Over the past year, he provided leadership and ensured continuity in the administration and retooling of the Ghana Armed Forces.
At a formal handing-over ceremony, the two ministers signed the relevant documents to officially confirm the transfer of responsibility. In his remarks, Dr Ato Forson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as caretaker and to help sustain the operations and programmes of the Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces.
He also expressed confidence in the new Minister and welcomed him back to the Ministry, describing the Ministry as a family. He pledged his continued goodwill and cooperation towards advancing the Ministry’s mandate and contributing to a new chapter of progress, unity and excellence for the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces.
Dr Ato Forson further expressed appreciation to the Deputy Minister, Chief Director and staff of the Ministry, as well as the Military High Command, for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure as Acting Minister.
The Incoming Minister, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei stated that he is determined to give off his best while looking forward to working with the Ministry to strengthen the defence sector, safeguard the stability of the nation and continue to serve the Republic of Ghana with dedication.
The Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces presented citations and gifts in recognition of the Outgoing Acting Minister’s dedicated service and hardwork.
