A looming legal battle line is drawn between Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Samuel Adu Gyamfi, the CEO of Goldbod, Multi Media Group, Eric Agyei & Peace FM over extortion allegation levelled against him (Osahene).
GHc 15, 000,000.00 Costs
Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin is demanding fifteen million Ghana Cedis (15,000,000.00) by way costs, from the defendants for what he described as a defamatory statement made against him.
This became known via a writ of summons filed in the Superior Court of Judicature in The High Court of Justice, General Jurisdiction, Accra, AD 2026.
In the said suit, dated August 24, 2026, at the Dehena Chambers, Number 25, on Onyasia Street, West Legon adjacent Beulah Methodist Church, Accra.
The Plaintiff, (Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin) is further demanding certain claims intalia:
Statement Of Claim
- General damages for libel
- Aggravated damages
- Exemplary damages
- An order directing the Defendants to publish a full, unconditional, unequivocal retraction of the defamatory statements
- An order directing the Defendants to publish a full, unconditional, unequivocal public apology to the Plaintiff.
- An order directing that the retraction and apology be published broadcast with substantially the same prominence and reach original publication.
- An order directing the Defendants to cause the retraction and apology to be broadcast an Joy News and published on the relevant electronic and social-media platforms through which the defamatory publication was disseminated
- An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants, their servants, agents, assigns and/or any persons acting under their authority from further publishing the defamatory words or any words to the same or substantially similar effect concerning the Plaintiff
- Costs of Fifteen million Ghana cedis (G#i15, 000. 000.00) as compensation thereof
- Costa, including Legal costs; and
- Any further of other reliefs as this Honourable Court may deem fit.
Later, in a statement on the floor of Parliament, Osahene had this to say: Mr Speaker, in the face of the allegations of extortion levelled against me, I have chosen to take the high moral ground by submitting myself to the processes of the law. I have accordingly caused writs to be filed in Suit Number GT/1029/2026, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu Gyamfi & Multimedia Group Ltd at the Accra High Court, and Suit Number GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Eric Agyei & Peace Fm at the Achimota Circuit Court. I have every confidence that, in the fullness of time, the courts will make the appropriate determinations on these matters. Until then, Mr Speaker, I want to assure the people of Ghana that I have served in this position with integrity, with a clear conscience and with fidelity to the responsibilities entrusted to me. I say so without more.
