Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr. Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, has shared a reflection on his journey in the legal profession ahead of his 16th anniversary at the Bar.

In a statement titled “MOVING FORWARD COMES AT A COST— BUT KEEP MOVING,”_ the lawyer and second-term MP recounted his call to the Bar on October 1, 2010, with nothing but a dream backed by hope.

Quoting Dr. Kwame Nkrumah that “Those who would judge us merely by the heights we have achieved would do well to remember the depths from which we started,” Dr. Sosu said his conviction led him to pursue Human Rights and Public Interest Law.

He disclosed that for close to ten years, he volunteered with the Justice for All Programme, providing pro bono legal services to hundreds of pre-trial detainees, often at his own personal cost.

“In different matters, I took on the Clergy, the Police, the Attorney-General, the Military, the Judiciary, Parliament and other state institutions, as well as individuals, whenever I believed the rights of others — particularly vulnerable persons such as Persons with Disabilities, women, children and the aged were being violated,” he stated.

According to him, his advocacy for displaced persons, victims of mass dismissals and victims of religious violations taught him that “when you fight injustice, those who benefit from an unjust system may fight back.”

Dr. Sosu recalled how some of the very people he stood for eventually stood against him, leading to the suspension of his licence to practise by the General Legal Council for three years, blacklisting of his law firm, loss of clients and shattered hopes.

“But I KEPT MOVING FORWARD,” he emphasized.

The Madina MP, who is now a member of the General Legal Council, Notary Public and practitioner in a progressive law firm, said as he prepares to celebrate 16 years at the Bar on October 1, 2026, he does so with gratitude.

“Every choice we make in life comes with a cost.

Every conviction we hold may be tested. Every meaningful journey will have moments of pain, disappointment and uncertainty. But KEEP MOVING FORWARD,” he urged.

He concluded by urging the public to keep believing, serving and fighting for what is right, quoting Mahatma Gandhi and J.K. Rowling to underscore that success is not defined by where one is born but what one grows to be.
