The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has commenced a public hearing into selected 2025 Auditor-General’s reports, with particular attention to financial and tax irregularities involving the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and its Departments and Agencies.
The Committee reviewed three reports, sought explanations for the identified irregularities and pressed the responsible institutions to account for the findings and take steps to resolve them. The reports covered the Birth and Death Registry, Institute of Local Government Studies, as well as a follow-up report on the implementation of DACF-RFG infrastructure projects in 30 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Abena Osei Asare, stated that 23 reports, comprising 10 statutory reports, 11 performance audit reports and 2 special reports, had been received. Two of the reports, however, were withdrawn pending their formal re-submission. These are the special audit report on the Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C., covering the period from 2017 to 2025, and the report on the 13th All African Games.
Reaffirming the Committee’s position, the Chairperson stressed the need for urgent and credible accountability, noting that while the process must be pursued with urgency, it must also be grounded in accuracy and credibility.
