Ghanaian rapper and songwriter King Paluta, whose real name is Thomas Adjei Wireko, has formally addressed the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board in a petition regarding the exclusion of his hit track Makoma from the 2025 awards nominations.

In a letter dated March 18, 2025, directed to the TGMA board, King Paluta’s management expressed their dissatisfaction with the omission of Makoma, arguing that the song had been one of the most popular and talked-about releases during the review period.

The petition detailed that Makoma was submitted for consideration in several categories, including Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. However, the final list of nominees revealed that the song was excluded from all these categories.

“We were surprised to find that none of the categories for which we had submitted the song were considered,” the petition read.

King Paluta’s management also expressed confidence in the professionalism of the TGMA board, requesting a clear and convincing explanation for what they called an “unpopular decision.”

“We trust in the judgment of the TGMA board and respectfully request a comprehensive reason for this exclusion, which we believe will help clarify matters for our team, fans, and the wider public,” the statement added.

The petition also reassured the board that Makoma adhered to all moral and ethical standards, urging the organizers to reconsider the track for appropriate nominations.

King Paluta, recognized for his exceptional talent in both hiplife and rap, has seen growing success in the music scene, and the exclusion of Makoma has sparked debates over whether the decision was justified.
