Adwoa in fresh trouble: NPP disciplinary Committee to probe her over media outburst

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally referred former MP for Dome-Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo to its National Disciplinary Committee following her recent media remarks, which the party deems a violation of internal directives.

A statement signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong cited Adwoa Safo’s appearance on Joy News’ Pulse Show as a clear breach of a directive barring party members from making public statements that could incite disaffection within the party. The statement, referenced as NPP/HQ/PR/2025/03/DAM, emphasized that all members were instructed to refrain from discussing internal party matters in ways that could cause unrest and negativity.

The party accused the former Dome-Kwabenya MP and Minister of State of disregarding this directive, stating that her comments undermine efforts to rebuild unity within the NPP. As a former high-ranking member, the statement noted, Adwoa Safo was expected to uphold discipline and loyalty but had instead acted in contravention of Article 3(5) of the NPP constitution, which mandates members to protect and defend the party’s image.

“In breach of the above provision of the Party’s constitution and the directives issued earlier, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the Party for further action,” the statement read.

This move has sparked debate within political circles, with some questioning the consistency of the NPP’s stance on free speech. Just recently, the party appeared to defend media freedom when Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah made controversial statements. Now, with Adwoa Safo under fire, critics say the party is applying double standards.
