The Black Stars of Ghana are preparing for an exciting match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles as part of the Unity Cup 2025 in London.

This highly anticipated game, often referred to as the “Jollof Battle,” is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as confirmed by the Ghana Football Association and the event organizers.

The winner of this match will advance to the final, where they will face the winner of the match between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.

All four participating nations have large diasporas in the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the 2021 census recorded 271,000 Nigerians and 113,000 Ghanaians in the UK.

In addition, the Jamaican High Commission stated in 2007 that there were 800,000 people in the UK either born in Jamaica or of Jamaican descent. The 2013 ONS census recorded 25,000 Trinidadians living in the UK.

“The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does evoke the often-used phrase ‘an event that goes beyond sport,’” said Andy Howes, co-director of competition organizer AfroSport.
