Before the start of the much-anticipated CAF African Schools Football Continental Championship “Ghana 2025”, a delegation comprising executives of the continental football governing body, CAF, on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation to discuss preparations for the upcoming Championship.

The delegation was led by an Executive Committee member of the Ghana Football Association and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the CAF African Schools Football Championship, Gideon Fosu.

In his welcome remarks, Mr Adams commended the delegation for choosing Ghana as the host Country for this year’s African Schools Football Championship and entreated CAF to bring more tournaments to Ghana since Ghana is endowed with the required sports infrastructure to host competitions at that level.

He urged the CAF representatives to invest more in grassroots football to produce more stars for the continent and also promote jobs for younger athletes.

According to him, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will invest in school sports to unearth the finest talents in the various schools across the country.

“It’s going to help this generation to benefit. We might get a lot of stars in the near future talking about both boys and girls categories” he said.

He further urged the CAF to assist member Associations in drafting policies that will be geared to benefit or encourage school Sports competitions.

On her part, the Director of CAF Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, said they were excited to meet the Minister to discuss youth football development and related matters.

“The CAF African Schools Football Championship has been a great success since its inauguration in 2022, adding that boys and girls across Africa have been allowed to participate in competitive football, but more importantly, CAF has used the program to effectively capacitate young Africans’’ she mentioned.

According to her, through the CAF Capacity Building Programmes, training and accreditation of young Africans have been provided and have tremendously enhanced their skills.
