Parliament is set to receive President John Dramani Mahama for the delivery of the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, February 27, 2026, in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

The announcement was made by the Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee, Mahama Ayariga, on the floor of the House while presenting the Business Statement on Friday for the fourth week starting Tuesday, 24th February, 2026.

Addressing Members of Parliament, Hon. Ayariga disclosed that the President is scheduled to deliver the constitutionally mandated address to outline the state of affairs of the nation and government’s policy direction for the year ahead.

He urged Members to observe punctuality and be seated ahead of time, in keeping with the traditions and established conventions of the House, to ensure a smooth and dignified ceremony.

Hon. Ayariga further indicated that, due to preparations toward the President’s address, Parliament will adjust its sitting schedule. The House will commence proceedings at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, to allow for an early adjournment ahead of Friday’s event.

The State of the Nation Address is a significant constitutional requirement under Article 67, which mandates the President to address Parliament at the beginning of each session and periodically on the state of Ghana. The address typically outlines government’s achievements, challenges, and policy priorities across key sectors of the economy.

The event is expected to draw high-level dignitaries, including members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, members of the judiciary, and other invited guests.

Security and logistical arrangements are anticipated to be heightened within the Parliamentary precincts as the nation prepares for one of its most important constitutional ceremonies.
