The Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa held high-level talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a visit to Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic relations and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.
In a statement following the meeting, the Minister expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the main agenda of the discussions: the urgent appeal for the release of two Ghanaian citizens detained as prisoners of war in Ukraine. The Minister described the talks as “fruitful” and focused on advocating on humanitarian grounds for their safe return.
The discussions also addressed the growing threat of trafficking networks that exploit vulnerable African youth by luring them into dangerous situations, including risking their lives amid ongoing conflict.

Both leaders agreed to deepen bilateral ties, with strategic initiatives outlined in agriculture, defense, education, and trade sectors.
Furthermore, President Zelenskyy extended a formal invitation to Ghana’s President Mahama, signaling an intent to elevate diplomatic relations and foster stronger cooperation between Kyiv and Accra.
The Ghanaian delegation reaffirmed their commitment to the value of every Ghanaian life, emphasizing the Mahama Administration’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens abroad.
As relations deepen, Ghana and Ukraine are poised to explore new avenues of partnership, with a shared focus on humanitarian concerns and mutual development.
For Ghana, every life matters — a testament to the nation’s commitment to global diplomacy and human rights.
