A Word to the NPP – We Sympathize, But Let’s Be Honest!

What happened at Ablekuma North was shameful. No Ghanaian should ever be attacked during an election. Violence has no place in a democracy. And yes, we sympathize.

But let’s not pretend this came out of nowhere. This is the result of years of impunity, arrogance, and the dangerous belief that power is permanent.

When Charlotte Osei was removed and denied all her benefits, we warned you. You mocked us.

When Domelevo was forced out, we cautioned again. You laughed.

You cheered when Sam George was assaulted.

You applauded when Hannah Bissiw was humiliated.

You used power not to serve, but to subjugate—treating opponents like vile animals to the chariots of kings.

And it didn’t stop there. Just look at how you treated your own party members who were merely perceived as anti-Akufo Addo during your internal elections. Loyalty was demanded, not earned, and dissent was crushed.

When I said “karma is from Kyebi,” you insulted me.

I endured state-sponsored attacks. You vilified me. You sent thugs to attack me live on television, and used the police to water down the charges to protect your own. Soon another by-election will be held in Akwatia, a walking distance from Kyebi, Karma’s hometown…..🤦

Now let’s come back to Ablekuma North.

Kennedy Agyapong was there. NDC diehards applauded him. Some even queued up to take photos.

Bryan Acheampong walked freely—untouched.

Dr. Okoe Boye laughed and mingled with NDC supporters like family.

So why Hawa Koomson?

Mama, I’m so sorry this happened to you, but with all due respect, you brought this upon yourself.

It was widely known that the late terrorist of Kasoa, Kofa, was your close associate. He committed unspeakable crimes in Kasoa and its environs but walked free. He and his boys killed many people, including my friend, Nkatie. They shot him and hid his body near the Jei River. His decomposed body was found weeks later. You heard it. Some arrests were made, but your government was in power, so nothing happened. Today, they walk free—and you said nothing.

During the 2024 elections, your boys allegedly murdered another young man from Nima. The streets haven’t forgotten. Pain doesn’t vanish just because power changes hands.

When you fail to speak against injustice, injustice will locate you. For example, I like the suspended Chief Justice. I won’t lie, I’m not happy about her suspension. But the truth is, she didn’t see, didn’t hear, and didn’t speak when injustice was being served under Akufo-Addo. “She was minding her business.” I feel sad for her. But as a good son, I’ve learned from my mother how to also mind my business. It is what it is.

As Martin Niemöller once said:

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

We don’t rejoice in your pain. But we won’t act surprised either. You empowered thuggery. You stormed a courtroom and attacked a pregnant judge. And Chairman Wontumi proudly defended it.

To, those in power today, take a cue. Power is temporary. But the consequences of abusing it are not.
