The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has handed over 220 dual desks to the Ga East Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to schools in need of them in the Municipality.
This follows reports by the Education Directorate to the MP and the Assembly on inadequate furniture in some of the Public Basic Schools and the observations made by the MP when she toured the 2025 BECE Centres.
The presentation, which took place at the premises of the Ga East Municipal Assembly, was witnessed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Edmund Agboh, and officials from the Assembly and the Municipal Education Directorate.

Hon. Elikplim, in handing over the furniture to the Municipal Education Directorate, reechoed her commitment towards enhancing education in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, pledging to do more in the various facets of the sector.

She observed that during her tour of the BECE centres, most of the classrooms she inspected lacked adequate furniture while some had broken down, prompting her to act swiftly with the presentation of the 220 dual desks as a starting point in her quest to improve teaching and learning.
She charged the Municipal Education Directorate to ensure the desks are given to schools that need them most and maintain them to last and serve their purpose.
“While visiting the BECE centres, I noticed that the situation with some of the furniture the pupils sat on wasn’t right at all, so we discussed the ways and means to do something about it, and now God has answered our prayers. I am pleading with the Directorate to distribute to schools that need it most and as the years go by, we will be able to cover all the schools”, Hon. Elikplim stated.
Receiving the dual desks on behalf of the Directorate, the Municipal Director of Education (MDE), Mr. Eric Sey, thanked the Government and the Hon. MP for the gesture, which he believed was in line with the reset agenda in the education sector, and expressed appreciation to the Assembly for its continuous support.
“We are going to put it to good use and also ensure that our Heads check the furniture very well and maintain it to last longer for our pupils, and as Oliver Twist, we ‘always ask for more’”, the MDE remarked.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Edmund Agboh, also expressed gratitude to the Hon. MP for her support in helping to address the challenges facing the education sector.
He further assured the Directorate of the Hon. MP’s commitment in this direction in a response to the MDE’s remarks, saying, “Oliver Elikplim Twist will do more”.
Officials of the Assembly present included the NADMO Director, Edem Kofi Agbenyefia, DRIP Coordinator, Seth Agboyi, and Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO), Charles Ampomah Asabre.
The Municipal Education Directorate was also represented by Municipal Accountant, Sarah Osei, Municipal Administrator, Sandra Oduro, Municipal Welfare Officer, Rowland Ayisah, Municipal Data Collection Officer, Lambert Made, and Municipal Supply Officer, Solomon Ayisi Asare
