The Teachers’ Forum Forestation Project (TFFP), an initiative of the Teachers’ Forum on Environment and Climate Change Education, under the able auspices of Mr Abu Safian, President of the Teachers’ Forum, on Saturday, 18 July 2026, undertook a tree planting exercise along the median of the Galilea–Tuba Junction stretch of the Accra–Kasoa Road in the Ga South Municipality.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Ga South Municipal Assembly, during which approximately 70 tree seedlings were planted as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability, improve the landscape and contribute to road safety.

The tree planting exercise was led by the Greater Accra Regional Project Coordinator of the Teachers’ Forum Forestation Project, Mr Julius Blay. The exercise was attended by the President of the Teachers’ Forum, Mr Abu Safian, whose presence underscored the Forum’s commitment to environmental conservation and climate action.

The on-site implementation team comprised Mr Hans Nyansah, Mr Cando Michael, Mr Ellis Fiadjoe, Mr Wise, Mr Abdulai Zangani Muntar, and Mr Anas, who worked together to ensure the successful planting of the seedlings.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr Abu Safian said the project forms part of the Teachers’ Forum’s commitment to supporting the Government of Ghana’s national tree planting and environmental restoration agenda. He noted that planting trees along road medians not only beautifies the environment but also contributes to road safety by serving as natural barriers, reducing dust and improving the overall ecosystem.

He reaffirmed the Teachers’ Forum’s commitment to environmental and climate change education, stressing that practical activities such as tree planting complement classroom learning and encourage environmental stewardship among communities.

The Teachers’ Forum Forestation Project is a nationwide initiative being spearheaded by the Teachers’ Forum on Environment and Climate Change Education in partnership with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). The Forum also collaborates with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Forestry Commission for the supply of tree seedlings and technical guidance.

Mr Julius Blay said the Greater Accra Regional team is actively identifying road medians, public institutions and other suitable locations across the region for future tree planting exercises. He appealed to local authorities, institutions, corporate organisations and community leaders to support the initiative by granting access to suitable planting sites and collaborating with the Forum to expand the country’s tree cover.

He emphasised that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and urged the public to help nurture the planted seedlings to ensure their survival and long-term benefits.

The Teachers’ Forum Forestation Project continues to serve as one of the Forum’s flagship environmental initiatives, demonstrating the commitment of teachers to climate action and sustainable development while contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s national environmental conservation efforts.
