GTA launches The Ghana Tourism Authority has launched the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS), a new digital platform designed to simplify licensing and improve accountability across the tourism sector.

Speaking at the launch at Accra City Hotel on May 19, GTA CEO said the system will allow tourism operators to apply, renew, manage records, file returns, and pay levies online. The move is aimed at cutting delays and reducing the need for operators to travel long distances to process documentation.

A key feature is the Licensed Facility Verification System, which will let the public verify whether a tourism facility is licensed before using its services. Officials say this will protect consumers, build trust, and ensure visitors get value for money.

Accorsing to the CEO, Maame Efua Houadjato said, the launch aligns with President Mahama’s vision to make tourism one of the leading contributors to Ghana’s GDP.

“Tourism is not just about leisure. Tourism is business. Tourism is employment. Tourism is culture. Tourism is investment. Tourism is national identity,” the CEO stated.

The GTA also announced that a Customer Service Register module will be added in coming days.

It will allow operators to capture customer and service data securely, giving the Authority and Ministry real-time insight into tourism activity across the country.

The data will guide policy, investment decisions, and industry support programmes.

Madam however, called on operators and the industry players to embrace the system, saying its success depends on collaboration.

The CEO thanked the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the GTA Board, and technical partners PIDASMO Technologies Group Limited for developing the platform.

“The future of tourism in Ghana is digital.

The future of tourism in Ghana is connected. And the future of tourism in Ghana begins now,” she said.
