A seven-member Australian delegation has visited the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) headquarters in Accra to learn about Ghana’s disaster management system and discuss closer cooperation on emergency preparedness and response.
The delegation was led by Oliver Gao, First Secretary and Consul at the Australian High Commission. It was welcomed by NADMO Director General Major Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), who emphasised the importance of planning and collaboration before emergencies occur.
“Disaster management is a process, not an event,” he said.
Discussions covered NADMO’s mandate and response arrangements, and how the organisation and the Australian High Commission could coordinate assistance for Australian citizens and other foreign nationals during emergencies.
NADMO also outlined plans to involve diplomatic missions in selected field exercises. Both sides expressed interest in continued cooperation on preparedness, communication and emergency response.
