Key players in Ghana’s power sector gathered to validate the 2026 Integrated Power System Master Plan (IPSMP).
The meeting, led by the Energy Commission’s Acting Executive Secretary, Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, brought together representatives from the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), Nuclear Power Ghana, Bui Power Authority, and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
Ms. Bondzie underscored the importance of coordinated evidence-based planning in securing the country’s electricity future.
Stakeholders reviewed issues raised in the plan, drawing on data, technical analysis, and practical experience, while the IPSMP Technical Group responded to comments and provided further technical input. Discussions centred on Ghana’s future electricity needs, the generation capacity to hold in reserve, and the potential for power exports, as well as the role of solar PV, small-scale hydro, gas, and LNG in the country’s future generation mix.
Beyond forecasting demand, the IPSMP provides an integrated view of Ghana’s generation, transmission, distribution, and energy-resource needs, helping institutions align plans and investment decisions.
The validation meeting marked a step toward a more coordinated and resilient power system, guided by data and collaboration, with one goal: keeping the power on.
