The Chief Executive of NPA, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo has inaugurated committees to develop a framework for electric vehicle (EV) charging points and battery swap in petroleum retail outlets in the country.

The regulatory, standard and stakeholder sub-committees are chaired by the Deputy Chief Executives, Dr. Sheila Addo, and Dr. Dramani Bukari, with Directors and Heads of Department as members.

The sub-committees will submit their report to the Steering Committee chaired by the Chief Executive within three months.
In his remarks at the inauguration in Accra on Wednesday, Mr. Tameklo described the inauguration as a significant step towards a sustainable energy future.
“A lot is happening. We don’t want to be found wanting. We want to approach the future today,” he said.

Mr. Tameklo emphasized that the committee would help create a roadmap that encourages investment, convenience and retention of fuel stations’ customers.

“Our task involves addressing key considerations such as infrastructure requirements, safety standards, accessibility, and incentives that will facilitate the adoption of EV charging points in traditional fuel stations,” the CEO said.

The NPA Boss further indicated that promoting green transportation and reducing carbon emissions is in line with the vision of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Energy, and green transition and the country’s national sustainability goals.

“This roadmap will encourage investment, improve convenience, and ensure petroleum retail outlets continue to serve customers in an evolving energy landscape,” he said.

Mr. Tameklo urged members to embrace open collaboration, innovative thinking, and practical solutions in order to deliver an effective framework that would boost Ghana’s transition to cleaner energy.

‘“The committees’ role is vital in shaping a practical and efficient framework that supports the growth of electric mobility”, he emphasized.
