President Mahama cut sod for the construction of the Wa-Han-Tumu-Navrongo, and Hamile Road under the Big Push Initiative.
The sod cutting event covers over 260km of major roads in the Upper West and East Regions. The total investment for the entire scope is valued at GHc3.7 billion making it the largest road infrastructure investment in the northern corridor in recent history.
Key Roads to be Constructed include:
- Wa City Centre: Dualization of the Wa–UDS–City Centre Road to ease traffic and beautify the capital.
- Wa Corridors: Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road (37 km) and Wa–Han Road (22 km of new works, 54 km rehabilitation).
- Regional Links: Tumu–Han–Lawra Road (70 km) and Navrongo–Tumu–Sandema Road (50 km).
- Border Access: Tumu–Hamile Road (15 km),
- Tumu–Sissili–Navrongo Road (15 km), and
- Tumu–Chuchuliga–Navrongo Road (32.6 km).
Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama said “for years, these roads have been in deplorable condition. Farmers have struggled to move their produce. Traders have lost goods. Children have spent long hours commuting to school. But no more. Today, we are saying, ‘Enough is enough.”
On his part, Hon. Kwame Agbogza delivered a clear message to the contractors working on Big Push projects saying “Ghana has changed. Deliver quality, deliver on time, and deliver within budget. There will be no room for shoddy work or inflated claims.”
