President John Dramani Mahama has lauded Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as one of his most hardworking ministers, attributing much of Ghana’s international success to Ablakwa’s diligent efforts on the ground. In a statement, the President emphasized, “Every credit I have attained on the international scene, it is he that has done the leg work.”

Today, President Mahama commenced his tour of the Volta Region with a groundbreaking ceremony in Juapong for the construction of eighteen (18) 24-hour Economy Model Markets. These markets are part of a regional initiative aimed at boosting local commerce, creating sustainable jobs, and promoting economic growth across all districts in the region.

The President’s itinerary includes visits to the Peki College of Education (GOVCO) and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Sokode, underscoring the government’s focus on education and health development. He will also inspect ongoing work on the Asikuma to Ho road under the Big Bush Programme, a major infrastructure project designed to improve transportation in the area.

In addition, President Mahama will inaugurate a new District Police Headquarters for the Akatsi North District, reinforcing efforts to enhance security and law enforcement in the region. Accompanied by Ministers of State, heads of institutions, and Members of Parliament, he will host an educational durbar centered on the Free Primary Health Care programme, engaging community members on health initiatives.

On Friday, the President is set to hold a town hall meeting at Ho Technical University, providing a platform for chiefs and residents to share feedback on government policies and ongoing development projects. He will also visit the Ho Sports Stadium to assess its current condition, with plans to improve sports infrastructure in the region.

This tour highlights the government’s commitment to regional development, economic empowerment, and community engagement in the Volta Region.
