Ghana’s Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has been elected Chairman of Committee B of the World Health Organization’s World Health Assembly.
The Ministry of Health congratulated the minister on the appointment, describing it as recognition of Ghana’s growing influence in global health governance.
Committee B is one of the two main committees of the World Health Assembly.
It handles the core administrative and financial machinery of the WHO, including oversight, accountability, staffing, collaboration with the UN and other intergovernmental bodies, and institutional reforms that keep the organization running effectively.
According to the ministry, key decisions on how global health systems are managed, strengthened, and sustained are shaped within this committee.
“We are proud that the election of the Honorable Minister into this role reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s participation in global health discussions and in the country’s contribution to shaping how the world responds to health challenges,” the ministry stated.
The appointment places Ghana at the center of discussions on WHO’s operations and global health strategy at a time when multilateral health governance is under close review.
